A thread forming screw is a specially designed fastener that forms a matching thread inside the substrate through compression during installation, unlike ordinary self-tapping screws which create threads by cutting the material. Compared to traditional thread-cutting screws, thread forming screws do not remove substrate material; instead, they use a special thread shape to compress the material outwards, resulting in a tighter and more stable threaded connection between the screw and the mounting hole.
