Flat Head Torx Drive Self Tapping Screw

 

Self-tapping screws are a type of screw with a drill bit at the end. They can be installed using specialized power tools, completing drilling, tapping, fastening, and locking in one step. In contrast, regular screws require pre-threaded holes to be screwed into.

Structure of Self-Tapping Screws

Each self-tapping screw consists of three parts: the head, the shank, and the shank end. Every self-tapping screw is defined by four key elements: head shape, drive type, thread type, and end form.

1.Head Shape
The head shape varies widely. Common types include round (half-round) head, flat round head, round head with flange (washer), flat round head with flange (washer), pan head, pan head with flange (washer), countersunk head, semi-countersunk head, cheese head, dome head, truss head, hex head, hex flange head, hex head with flange (washer), and more.

2.Drive Type
The drive type refers to the method used to turn and fasten the screw head. The basic types are external drive and internal drive. Generally, external drives allow for higher torque than any internal drive (recessed) type.

External Drive: Hex, hex flange, hex washer, hex lobed, etc.

Internal Drive: Slotted, Phillips H-type, Phillips Z-type, Phillips F-type, square drive, combination drive, internal spline, internal hex lobed, internal triangle, internal hexagon, internal 12-point, clutch drive, six-lobe drive, high-torque Phillips, etc.

3.Thread Type
There are numerous thread types, including self-tapping threads (coarse threads), machine threads (standard threads), drywall threads, fiberboard threads, and other specialized threads. Additionally, threads can be classified as single-lead (single-start), double-lead (double-start), multi-lead (multi-start), or high-low double-lead threads.

A flat head Torx drive self-tapping screw is normally a customized screw.
